I have yet to find a top-notch Chinese food restaurant after moving here from California, but I decided to try out Black Pearl tonight after reading the recommendations for it here online and overhearing a conversation at Barnes & Noble where people were saying positive things. So I drove out to Wedgewood from downtown, and I have to say, it was worth the drive. I tried the homemade chow mein and it was good, but I really liked the kung pao chicken. The hot & sour soup wasn't so good, I don't think I'd order that again. The service was decent, nothing exceptional. But the place was packed on a Monday night, and that's a good sign. I'll definitely return sometime soon.

I never give much thought to Chinese Food. I'm more of a Vietnamese or Thai fan. However, I have found myself oredering food from Black Pearl over and over. When I heard that the homemade noodles from Snappy Dragon were undoubtably the best in Seattle, I was appaled! I think the Chow-mein dishes are worth every penny. I appreciate the helpfullness of the young staff at Black Pearl, who seem to be experts at every dish on the menu. (Especially Van, whom I know personally) It is also nice to view the food being made right infront of you, instead of in a secluded kitchen. No complaints here!

I have been eating at Black Pearl for several years now (a few months before I moved to Wedgwood actually) and love it. The meats and veggies are of extremely high quality -- the chicken is very lean and they always use white breast meat. The beef and pork is also very lean, and the seafood is fresh. The veggies are always bright and vibrant and cooked to perfection. Some things I really like: the pork pot stickers, the homemade chow mein noodles, sesame chicken, mongolian chicken and Buddhist's delight. I have never had any dish there that was not good -- it's all so tasty! Every time you go you must try something different. I highly recommend their lunch menu where you get a bowl of soup and an entree (with fried rice and your choice egg roll or BBQ pork) -- this is a great way to see what dishes are your favorites. Their restaurant is small and always crowded, but it's worth the wait. Take-out and delivery is always good -- deliver is very fast and their drivers are very friendly. Never had bad service there... a real asset to Wedgwood that's for sure!

This is probably my 5th or 6th order to the Wedgwood location for delivery. Shoreline location doesn't deliver in my area but have had excellent experiences there.
Half the time the Sweet & Sour Prawns are excellent from the Wedgwood location, other times, old oil taste- oil used too many times... or something, end up tossing the food out.
They also charge extra for almost anything so be sure to ask before you order about additional charges. Two very small little cups of hot mustard cost $.45. Yea, I was shocked!
Tonite, 10/21/02 will make or break future orders, will I buy from them again!
I'm going to try the Sweet & Sour Prawns and the Mu Goo Gai Pan with a side of rice.
