Some say Louies ain;'t what it once was, but I still have a good time every time we go there. The food at Louies is excellent, presented well and never bad or over cooked. It may not be quite as authentic to the old country cooking as some chinese resturaunts in the international district, but let's face it, this is BALLARD, and Louies needs to cater to the decendants of Norwegian imigrants. He does a great job keeping it as authentic as possible, but more importantly, they do a great job keeping it good. His is a great place to bring the family for some chineese cooking. The lounge at Louies is always full, but I'm honestly not sure who those lounge lizards are, and why--out of all the bars in Ballard---they choose Louies every night. Weird. Anyway, the lounge is set apart from the rest of the resturaunt, so you don't even notice it except when you first walk in. THe service here is very good, and very friendly, it's not at all uncommon to see the proprietor going table to table talking to the customers and making everyone feel very welcome. They really make an effort here to make sure you're having a good time and enjoying the meal. This place is often used by families to commerorate events, graduations, meet the new fiancee, that sort of thing. There is plenty of seating, and plenty of very private booths as well, so it's not a bad place to take a hot date. I like the crab Rangoon appetizers. For vegetarians, there is some selection and you can get a good meal, but like most Chineese resturaunts, the focus is on multiple meat products.
A nice chinese restaurant in Ballard. My parents won't go anywhere else. The food is great and you can reserve the banquet room for large parties. My personal favorite is the Orange Peel Chicken and their Won Ton Soup. The bar also has great happy hour specials...
