I've been dining at Machiavelli for years and have yet to be disappointed. Pasta is their speciality, and they know how to prepare it perfectly: slightly al dente, fresh, and with just the right amount of flavorful sauce. The homemade ravioli and carbonara are excellent!
The prices are reasonable, and you won't leave hungry -- a variety of fresh bread with house-made vinegrette for dipping complements your meal.
The bar is insanely crowded most evenings, but the drinks are great. Get there early...the restaurant doesn't take reservations, and the wait can be up to an hour (sometimes longer!), but it's worth it. If you're feeling claustrophobic while waiting for your table, head two doors down to the Baltic Room for a drink which you pass the time.

I have heard nothing but good things about Machiavelli.. Hope to get a chance to check it out soon... Good italian always makes a rainy day a little better....

I like to start out drinking kamakazis in their bar , move on to dinner and then move out to a fun night on seattle's capitol hill. The pasta is fresh and the sauces are good enough. Always busy and full of energy. Don't let its ugly exterior scare you off.

being a creature of habit, I find myself heading to Machiavellis more frequently than any other restaurant in town due to the superb pasta (can you say gnocchi!), the crisp salads (try one with gorgonzola!), the great ambiance, the delicious Bloody Mary's and the fun waitstaff.
I've never had a meal that wasn't great, a wait person that didn't make the meal even better and the low prices keep me coming back week after week
